Dr. Shreya SANTRA

Dr. Shreya Santra is an Assistant Professor of Space Robotics at Tohoku University, Japan. She holds a Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering with specialization in planetary surface robotics. She has worked extensively as part of international teams.

 

Educated in India, Russia and France, she has a Masters in Space and Engineering Systems from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Moscow, a BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur and a second Master’s from the International Space University, Strasbourg.

Shreya has been the recipient of many scholarships for her academic accomplishments, including the Japanese MEXT Scholarship and German DAAD Research Grant. She has won global Robotics Competitions such as the Caltech Space Challenge 2019 and Micron UV Robot Design Contest 2020.

 

Shreya is passionate about motivating the next generation of space explorers through quality STEM education, access to space mentors and to opportunities to fly space experiments. Towards realising this dream, in 2021, Shreya co-founded a space start-up called ‘Spaceonova’ and has been an active member of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) since 2015.

Shreya is a member of the S2 founding team. She helps coordinate research and outreach. She leads the curation of S2’s India-centric space policy debates and international space law and policy dialogues with space-faring nations.
